Dear Santa, I know, I’ve not been so good;
I’ve not done some things that I probably should.
So I’m asking for others and certainly not me,
But first there is something you really should see.
Your elves should take care, there might be a raid;
Even if they’re legal, they should be afraid.
And on our rooftops, you need to take care,
You might be deported to who knows where.
It’s hard to make sense in times like these,
When Hades itself seems in a deep freeze.
The world is in chaos, it’s coming to a head;
Some mornings I feel like just staying in bed.
There’s wheeling and dealing and corporate greed,
When so many people are in desperate need.
So many are dying, and so few who care;
So many are hurting, and so few who share.
There are too many people with too many words,
And the rest of us mooing around in great herds.
They want us to listen, shut up and obey;
But actions speak louder than what they may say.
No gifts under the tree and stockings are bare,
Unless of course you’re a smug billionaire.
Too many think life is all about gold,
And miss out on what can’t be bought or be sold.
So perhaps you can gift wrap a couple of things,
Like give us some sense to do the right things.
Some snow for Christmas would be really nice,
Just don’t bring any of that awful ice.
Please give us some leaders who do not demean;
Help us remember what it is to dream.
And as you’re flying all those many miles,
Perhaps you could drop off a few of those files.
So thanks in advance for whatever you bring;
It’s time now for all of us to get up and sing.
Just follow along and it’ll all be okay:
Live life now and find joy in each day.
Clever poem, Tim! That just about covers it! You hit the nail right on the head. More and more people are realizing that it’s up to all sane people to do something. It seems impossible to open the eyes and ears of all the insane DT followers.
Thanks so much! Insane times indeed, beyond parody. Keep fighting the good fight.
Thanks, Tim
Great ‘social commentary’!
Let’s hope next November will make some changes.
Happy New Year!
